For Bakersfield residents Dr. Magued Rizk and Dr. Miriam Rizkalla, TruBlue Home Service Ally is more than a new business venture — it’s a deeply personal mission to help families live safely and comfortably in their homes. After years of working in healthcare and experiencing firsthand the challenges of home accessibility, the husband-and-wife duo opened TruBlue Home Service Ally of West Bakersfield in December 2024. Their goal: provide trusted, professional home maintenance and modification services to support aging in place for seniors and enhance accessibility for families with unique mobility needs.
This mission hits close to home. The Rizks’ daughter, Mia, was born with a severe neurological condition that requires her to use a wheelchair. The daily challenges of navigating a home not designed for mobility needs — from narrow doorways and steep stairs to inaccessible bathrooms — inspired the Rizks to act.
“Our 11-year-old daughter Mia was born with a severe neurological condition that has left her wheelchair-bound, so we’ve struggled with several things around the house,” said Dr. Magued Rizk. “TruBlue can help people like us.”
Turning Personal Experience Into a Community-Focused Solution
The Rizks’ journey is one many families can relate to — struggling to find reliable help for basic home updates that make living spaces safer. For years, they searched for solutions that didn’t exist locally. The lack of accessible, trustworthy services didn’t just present physical challenges; it became an emotional barrier too. Caring for their daughter and for Magued’s aging father, they saw how home environments often fail to meet the needs of those with mobility limitations.
“Every house has someone who needs accommodations for safety,” Magued said. “And there’s no one around in the area to help.”
That realization led them to TruBlue — a national home services franchise focused on aging-in-place home modifications, routine maintenance, and household repairs. More than a handyman service, TruBlue is an ally for families, offering help with everything from lightbulb replacements and yardwork to grab bar installation, stair railings, smart home upgrades, and full home safety assessments.
Why TruBlue Stood Out
For the Rizks, TruBlue was the perfect fit: a brand that combined their passion for care with a business model designed to serve others with integrity, professionalism, and purpose.
Unlike traditional senior care companies that primarily assist with personal tasks like bathing or meal prep, TruBlue focuses on the environmental side of aging in place — making the home itself safer and more supportive. This distinction is what makes TruBlue such a powerful complement to existing home health care models, giving families peace of mind through proactive, practical solutions.
“We liked TruBlue because we thought it’d be a good fit for our area,” Magued shared. “And we needed to be with a franchise that would guide us with this type of business.”
Though new to business ownership, the couple felt confident joining a franchise system that offers comprehensive training, marketing support, and senior home safety certification through the NAHB and Age Safe America. With TruBlue’s guidance, they are navigating the learning curve of entrepreneurship while continuing to serve their community — this time, not as physicians, but as home service allies.
Looking Ahead: A Business Rooted in Purpose
Today, the Rizks still work in healthcare — Magued full-time, and Miriam part-time — while building their TruBlue business around the needs of their family and their neighbors. Their long-term vision includes expanding services, growing their client base, and allowing Miriam more time to work from home and care for Mia.
“Having your own business and the ability to grow it yourself is worth it,” Magued said. “It’s not easy; it’s a risk, but if it works, it’s really going to be worth it.”
For families in Bakersfield and beyond, the Rizks’ story is a reminder that aging in place and accessible living aren’t just ideas — they’re achievable goals when you have the right support. Through TruBlue, they’re empowering families, improving lives, and showing what it truly means to combine healthcare values with hands-on home services.
